Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant will focus on completion and accuracy of financial statements for all departments within Capilano Group and related working paper files. Through their analysis and follow up, they will ensure the integrity of financial information and identify opportunities for improved financial results and controls. They must establish and maintain strong communication with teams of Capilano Group locations to promote financial ownership, responsibility and professional development.

They will ensure compliance with company accounting policies and industry accounting standards. Unquestionable integrity, strong judgment skills and absolute discretion with confidential and sensitive information is a requirement for this role.

  • Prepare monthly general ledger reconciliations, working paper files, and manage and co-ordinate monthly close process for multiple locations,
  • Assist in payroll, AR, AP and all accounting related functions,
  • GST/PST, government tax filings, and other statutory reporting,
  • Assist with budgeting and financial statement variance reporting,
  • Assist with year-end working paper preparation, liaise with external accountants,
  • Ad-hoc reporting and analysis,
  • Review monthly reconciliations and manage monthly close process for multiple locations,
  • Communicates with General Managers from multiple locations and is available to assist with timely questions,
  • Track and record intercompany transactions,
  • Assist with budgeting and statement analysis,
  • Ensure compliance with established financial, legal and/or administrative requirements,
  • Demonstrate tact and professionalism when dealing with sensitive files and information,
  • Perform additional responsibilities, as requested by the Accounting Manager, CFO/VP of Finance and Ownership.



  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration or related field
  • Possesses or working towards an Accounting Designation – CPA (CGA, CA)
  • 3+ years in progressive accounting roles,
  • Experience with FRX, Microsoft Solomon, Avanti – in house payroll (an asset),
  • Highly organized, Analytical, Strong interpersonal and communication skills,
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills; ability to deal effectively with all levels of the organization,


  • Flexibility to workdays, some evenings in order to meet the needs of the business
  • While performing the duties of this job the team member may be required to sit for long periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to lift and carry 10lbs.
