Naturalist (Day Hiking Guide) – Summer 2020 Season

Details:

  • Fulltime, working up to 40 hrs. a week,
  • Hourly wage with an end of contract bonus,
  • Staff accommodation onsite, $13.00/day, includes all meals and laundry.
  • May 24, 2020 – October 2, 2020 (TBC), Please note: IGA Guide Training is early May
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada prior to offer of employment.

Duties/Responsibilities

Our Naturalist (Day Hiking Guide) is responsible for guest service, hiking trips and canoe rentals.  The main responsibilities include: leading morning interpretive hikes for lodge guests and planning excursions for guests. The guided hikes lead to Larch Valley and Consolation Lakes and are an opportunity to share local flora and fauna knowledge, as well as, the breathtaking scenery with guests from all over the world. This position works in on the Canoe dock after completing hikes or if there are no hikes scheduled. Safety is always our first priority.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Min. 1 yr. previous Outdoor Adventure experience, involving interaction with guests, preferably in a similar role,
  • Background in Biology, Natural History or a related field, an asset,
  • Must be Interpretive Guides Association (IGA) certified (or become so prior to employment, Moraine Lake Lodge will arrange the training if needed),
  • First Aid and CPR required, or preferably Wilderness First Aid Certificate,
  • Outdoor enthusiast, a passion for hiking and exploring the Rocky Mountains,
  • Second language, an asset,
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Ability to hike 4-10km, 600 meters of elevation gain 5 days a week,
  • Must be guest service oriented, excellent people skills with a positive & upbeat personality,
  • Outdoor enthusiast, a passion for hiking and exploring the Rocky Mountains,
